JAB42 includes four essays based on talks given at the Artist Book Brisbane Event, Queensland College of Art, in July 2017. Tim Mosely, Professor of Art at QCA, has been the organizer of abbe for the past eight years, and speakers come from around the world to talk about the theory and practice of artist books. Another essay in this issue by Márcia Oliveira explores the wonderful artist books of Louise Bourgeois.
Three original artist books are included with JAB42.
Chris George’s enigmatic yet stunningly beautiful The Past is Better Than the Present and the Future is Nowhere will keep the viewer entranced.
The Walls are Talking by Rick Rowland presents in short stories and photographs the plight of developmentally disabled people faced with abuse but unable to seek help. This is a gripping tale that is also timely and much needed.
Karen Wirth’s Paper Architecture turns photographs she has taken of Florentine buildings and images of images of these buildings in a tour-de-force of abstraction that takes full advantage of the structure of the book.
Read, explore, enjoy…
…just be sure to watch out for that left uppercut.
